Association YHA Haworth is a Victorian Gothic Mansion that was built as the family home of a local mill owner. It overlooks the Worth Valley and the famous Bronte village. Inside the building the sweeping staircase, ornate painted glass, richly carved oak and plaster friezes hint at the building''s opulent past.
After the local decline of the wheat industry in 1887, the citizens of Bronte turned to commercial fishing. By the turn of the century Bronte harbour had 22 fishing vessels (more than Port Credit and Burlington Beach). At this time the steam mill, under new ownership, began fabricating metal products, transforming itself into a stamp mill.
The portrait of Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte, painted by Branwell Bronte was exhibited for the first time at the National Portrait Gallery. It had been presumed lost. After Charlotte Bronte died her husband Rev. Nichols took the picture to Ireland. In 1914 it was discovered folded in a cupboard, the creases are visible on the picture.

Haworth is small enough to get about on foot, but there are a number of steep bits and lots of cobbles. If you are coming from the Steam Railway, there is a hill up into the Bronte Village which is fairly steep and cobbled in places.

Bronte Steam Mill was built in 1858, two years after the completion of the harbour. The mill was located on the westside (water side) of Bronte Rd. With solid brick walls and a 4'' thick stone foundation the mill was a very sturdy mill was always powered by steam, never water.

The Bronte Steam Mills were built by the company, Jones, Williams, and Cummer on the west side of Trafalgar Street between Triller Street and Chisholm Street. At that time, it was one of the largest steam grist mills in Ontario. A threestorey building with a tall, brick smokestack, the steam grist mill was a Bronte landmark for nearly a century.
