Best bet, give the gal a coat of clay so that the heat of the fire can be absorbed and distributed over a thicker area.

Oct 31, 2010· Hi Morgan, I use charcoal that I make out of jarr which is a hardwood. My firepot is claylined and about 4" deep so when I am welding its about 6". I havn''t had any problems with this forge since I increased the air volume from a hairdryer to a vacume cleaner. It does use heaps more charcoal though but I can now weld in it easily.

I did get my first bag of coal but as of yet have not used any spending all my free time building a new forge instead. May try the coal on the new forges maiden trip out.
